President Donald Trump has forced out Reince Priebus, who resigned as White House chief of staff Thursday, and named Homeland Security secretary John Kelly as replacement.
During an interview on CNN’s “The Situation Room on Friday, Preibus told host Wolf Blitzer that President Trump “wanted to go in a different direction.”
On Trump’s replacement for the White House chief of staff role, Priebus said, “I think General Kelly is a brilliant pick.”
“We’ll be working on a transition here for a couple weeks together with General Kelly starting on Monday morning,” Priebus said. “So this is not like a situation where there are a bunch of ill will feelings.”
Asked if the president asked him to resign, Priebus clarified to Blitzer, “No. I resigned and he accepted it.”
Trump wrote on Twitter: “I would like to thank Reince Priebus for his service and dedication to his country. We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!”
