A judge was shot outside an Ohio courthouse Monday in an ambush attack by the father of one of the men convicted in the Steubenville High School rape case in 2012.
The attacker was waiting for Jefferson County judge Joseph J. Bruzzese Jr. outside of Jefferson County Courthouse in Steubenville, then ran up to him and began shooting at around 8 a.m., police said.
Authorities identified the gunman as Nathaniel Richmond, the father of Ma’lik Richmond – one of two teen football players convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl.
Bruzzese managed to draw his gun and fired at least five rounds and possibly hitting Richmond, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Fred J. Abdalla during a press conference.
Richmond was killed after getting struck three times.
Bruzzese was rushed to a hospital by helicopter for surgery and is now in stable condition, Jefferson County prosecutor Jane Hanlin told reporters.
100% Fed Up reports:
Jefferson County Judge Joseph J. Bruzzese Jr. should be counting his blessings today because he was saved by an armed parol officer. He should also be thankful that he was armed and able to return fire when he was ambushed on his way into work by two waiting gunmen.
