A Missouri state senator has apologized over her comment on Facebook that said she wanted President Donald Trump assassinated, Yes I’m Right reports.
Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, a Democrat, faced the media on Sunday and said “I made a mistake” for hoping the assassination of President Trump.
For days, Chappelle-Nadal became a target of bipartisan backlash for her comment on social media to Trump’s response to the violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va.
In her original post, she said “I really hate Trump. He’s causing trauma and nightmares.”
The post garnered several responses in which one of them she replied, “I hope Trump is assassinated!”
In her press conference, Chappelle-Nadal explained never meant to wish harm to come to Trump but wrote the comment out of frustration. “President Trump, I apologize to you and your family,” she said.
But Missouri’s top elected officials, both Democrats and Republicans, are demanding Chappelle-Nadal’s resignation. State senate leaders have given her a choice to either resign or be removed.
