Online payment provider PayPal has barred conservative websites from using its platform to receive donations online after they have been labeled as “hate sites” by a left-wing media organization.
Paypal reportedly banned Jihad Watch on Saturday following a ProPublica article went out claiming that the site promoted “extreme hostility toward Muslims.”
ProPublica is an investigative group funded by billionaire investor George Soros.
Jihad Watch director Robert Spencer said that he was threatened through email on Friday by ProPublica journalist Lauren Kirchner, who told him that his site was among the list of hate sites along with American Freedom Defense Initiative, another right-leaning group.
The objective of the hit piece was to force tech firms like PayPal and Amazon to end their partnerships with organizations it deemed as promoters of hate.
Just a few hours after the article went online, Spencer received an email from PayPal telling him that they decided to discontinue their service to Jihad Watch due to the “nature of your activities.”
The Daily Caller reports:
Spencer told The Daily Caller in an email that these attacks stem from the violence in Charlottesville, and the Left sees the tragedy as an opportunity to pounce on sites that it finds offensive.
