China, along with Russia, strongly condemned North Korea’s latest nuclear test and slammed Pyongyang for ignoring calls by the international community to end its nuclear weapons program, Infowars reports.
Beijing expresses strong opposition and condemnation toward test, according to a statement by China’s foreign ministry on its website. It was the communist regime’s sixth and most powerful nuclear test.
Chinese President Xi Jinping was joined by Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in condemning Pyongyang’s latest actions on Sunday ahead of the BRICS leaders summit in Xiamen in China’s Fujian province.
Sunday’s test, which triggered 6.3-magnitude quake, was widely felt in China’s northeast region and some cities were rocked for as long as eight seconds.
China’s nuclear safety agency has also began to monitor radiation levels in areas near its border with North Korea.
The North Korean government hailed the hydrogen bomb test as a “perfect success.”
