An illegal immigrant from El Salvador will receive $190,000 in settlement payout after he sued San Francisco for violating its own sanctuary law when police arrested him and turned him over to immigration agents.
Pedro Figueroa-Zarceno, 33, said the San Francisco Police Department notified immigration authorities that he is staying in the U.S. illegally, a violation of the city’s sanctuary policy.
Cops arrested Zarceno when he was retrieving his stolen vehicle from a police impound in 2015. He was jailed for two months and has been battling deportation ever since.
“What happened to me was very unfair and it was an injustice,” according to Zerceno.
Saira Hussain, the lawyer who represented Zarceno, told the San Francisco Examiner, “It’s really important for San Francisco to remain a sanctuary city not in name only but also in practice.”
The settlement agreement, which was reached with the city attorney’s office, will need approval from the Board of Supervisors.
100% Fed Up reports:
Is the case in San Francisco of the taxpayers forking over nearly 200K to an illegal a sign of what’s to come? Crazy Californians are broke but seem to find big bucks to give to someone who is an illegal alien.
Police handed this illegal over to immigration officials and now the man sues for it? He should have been deported! The guy even said what happened to him was “unfair.”
