Player of NFL’s Cleveland Browns stood side by side with law enforcement agents and emergency responders during the playing of the national anthem prior to their season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday.
The crowd cheered when the players ran out of the tunnel with the police, firefighters and EMTs. A video footage was also played where players gave their message appealing for unity.
The gesture defused tension over previous protests by some Browns players during the playing of the song.
Over a dozen players opted to kneel and pray in one of their preseason games. In their preseason finale, some players stood arm-to-arm while the song played.
These actions did not go well with some public safety officials. Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association president Steve Loomis said its members refused to hold the flag on Sunday.
“There’s a lot of misunderstanding as to what the players were really trying to accomplish with the prayer that they did,” police chief Calvin Williams said. “And the response by some folks in law enforcement was kind of over-the-top also.”
Young Conservatives reports:
One of the most popular trends with liberals these days is pretending it’s rational to sit for the national anthem because of something going on in the world you don’t like.
Colin Kaepernick is the poster boy for that idea and it appears to have cost him his career.
Luckily, not every NFL player feels the animosity for our country that Colin does.
In fact, the entire Cleveland Browns team just did something awesome before Sunday’s game.
