Police arrested over a dozen people in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for looting a Simon Sportswear store despite heavy winds and rain brought by Hurricane Irma, Daily Wire reports.
A local news media captured footage of the thieves looting the sporting goods store, with some moving in and out of the window carrying stolen boxes of shoes and clothing.
Police arrived at the scene an hour later and managed to arrest two suspects.
Later, the Miami Police Department posted on Twitter a photo showing at least 10 people they’ve caught and placed into custody for the alleged looting.
In a statement, Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Rick Maglione said “Going to prison over a pair of sneakers is a fairly bad life choice.”
“Stay home and look after your loved ones and be thankful they are all safe,” Maglione added.
