Mexicans who have unfavorable opinion of the United States sharply rose to its 15-year high amid strong disapproval of President Donald Trump’s policies toward their country, Sputnik reports.
According to the latest poll from Pew Research Center, 65 percent of Mexicans have an unfavorable view of the U.S.
This figure compares to just 29 percent of Mexicans who view their northern neighbor unfavorably in 2015.
The poll results released on Thursday were based from a survey conducted in March and April, in which it shows a sharp disapproval by Mexicans of Trump’s plan to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Also fueling the negative sentiment is Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants and threat to pull out of NAFTA.
But Mexicans’ negative attitudes toward the U.S. does not impact their desire to live and work here. Over half of those with an unfavorable opinion say that life was better for those who left Mexico for the U.S.
