Hollywood actress Issa Rae showed up in the red carpet of the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards and was candid about her support for African American artists to win, Gateway Pundit reports.
Rae, the creator and star of the HBO show “Insecure,” told a Variety reporter in an interview, “I’m rooting for everybody black. I am!”
Despite the award body’s snub of her show, Rae expressed appreciation to viewers of her show, currently running on its second season.
Rae said the audience’s support for her and the other writers “allowed them to tell stories from their own personal experiences” in the latest season, Variety said.
Insecure, whose cast features mostly African-Americans actors and actresses, did not get the attention of the Emmys this year despite its wide critical acclaim.
Rae’s remarks sparked racism accusations on social media. “But white people are the racist ones, right?” wrote one Twitter user.
