A location scout for the popular Netflix series “Narcos” was murdered last week while on the job in Mexico as the storyline for the fourth season shifts to Mexican drug cartels, True Pundit reports.
Carlos Muñoz Portal was fatally shot in a rural area of Mexico while searching for shooting locations for the show’s upcoming season.
Authorities found Portal’s body inside his vehicle in the municipality of San Bartolo Actopan.
The film company released a brief statement confirming the filmmaker’s death and adding that the case is currently being investigated.
“We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family,” Netflix said.
A friend of Muñoz said he might have drawn unwanted attention to himself as a foreigner carrying a camera. The area where his body was found is near the border of Hidalgo, a state known for its high homicide rate.
