President Donald Trump praised NASCAR for showing patriotism by not disrespecting the American flag the way NFL teams and players did over the weekend, Yes I’m Right reports.
“So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans,” the president tweeted on Monday morning. “They won’t put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag – they said it loud and clear!”
During the league’s Cup Series in New Hampshire this weekend, there were no protests by members of the NASCAR community while the “Star-Spangled Banner” was made.
This is partially because team owners have strictly warned their members against any protests similar to what NFL players have done that President Trump has been criticizing recently.
“Our respect for the national anthem has always been a hallmark of our pre-race events,” according to NASCAR in a statement released Monday.
NASCAR team owner Richard Petty, who is also a former driver, said that he wouldn’t accept any protest of the country’s flag. “Anybody that won’t stand up for the anthem ought to be out of the country,” he said.
