President Trump once claimed that he would make a “big, beautiful” wall along the U.S.-Mexico border in order to curb illegal immigration once and for all.
While the legislation for the wall is being drafted, Trump has managed to divert enough funds to get the first 60 miles of construction started.
The White House has requested $1 billion from the White House’s 2017 budget supplement for border and security defense, to fund 62 miles of the wall.
The money would be used to fund 48 miles of new wall, the necessary maintenance it will require, and upgrades for existing sections of border fence.
“The money will fund 14 miles of new border wall in San Diego, 28 miles of new levee wall barriers and six miles of new border wall in the Rio Grande Valley region and 14 miles of replacement fencing in San Diego,” CNN reported.
Trump is committed to getting the wall built, but now it seems like House Republicans will fight him on it in order to try and embarrass him for the failures of their healthcare bill.
