A man from Toledo, Ohio, was arrested recently after he tried to kill his own son by throwing a hatchet at him.
Noel Eugene Dawson Jr., 63, reportedly swung a hatchet at his son and missed, resulting in the hatchet being stuck in the hood of a nearby truck.
When police eventually arrived, they saw Dawson’s son sitting on top of him with the hatchet laying further away in the driveway.
Conservative Tribune reports:
The police separated the two men and reportedly became “immediately aware” that Dawson was “highly intoxicated.” Officers handcuffed Dawson and put him in the back of their cruiser, where he refused to answer any questions, while shouting obscenities.
He was apparently so intoxicated that he felt compelled to make a face at the camera while his mug shot was being snapped. Not a good idea because that photo has gone viral, giving Dawson a little bit more attention than he probably wanted.
The son told officers that his father picked up a hatchet and threw it at him. Thankfully, the son was able to step out of the way, and while the hatchet missed him, it hit the truck, the report said. The son also said that he feared for his life and the life of his own son, who both live at the residence where the incident occurred.
Dawson was charged with first-degree domestic violence and assault, second-degree criminal damaging, and fourth-degree to disclose personal information. Toledo Municipal Court Judge Robert Christiansen set Dawson’s bond at $50,000. Dawson pleaded not guilty to all of the charges on Thursday.
