Southern California is in a state of shock after President Donald Trump announced that he would be testing various prototypes for his border wall in their state.
Throughout his campaign, Trump promised to crack down on illegal immigration and build a border wall to keep illegal Mexican immigrants out of the country.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed on Monday that prototypes for the wall would be built on federal land in Otay Mesa, a community in San Diego.
Liberals in the state are up in arms after learning that their state would be the one to test the wall.
As it stands, up to 20 firms are competing in the first design round. The prototypes are expected to cost around $200,000 each.
Protests are currently being planned by liberals who oppose the construction of the wall.
San Diego police said they will allow the protests, but plan to keep their eye on them.
“As part of our community policing philosophy, we work closely with any party or group that wishes to express their views in a law-abiding manner,” San Diego police spokesman Lt. Scott Wahl said.
State Sen. Ricardo Lara, a Democrat, introduced legislation to forbid the state from dealing with any contractors that are trying to build the wall.
“It’s clear that President Trump intends to stick taxpayers with the cost of a border wall that will hurt California’s economy, environment and people,” the Democrat said, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. “I introduced Senate Bill 30 to give our state a louder voice to say that building a wasteful and unnecessary wall would be a huge mistake.”
When will California come to terms with their dangerous immigration policies? The illegal immigrants flooding into their cities are only making their communities more dangerous.
Hopefully Trump will be able to get the wall built as soon as possible so he can move on to other major issues that are brewing, like healthcare and the developing conflicts in the Middle East and North Korea.
