A generous couple from Australia tipped a Hawaiian waitress a massive $400 tip and told her they would pay off all her debt and student loans last week in order to help her stay in school.
Cayla Chandara, 22, moved to Hawaii for school, but had to put it on hold after she fell deep into debt.
Chandara hit it off with an Australian couple while she was waiting their table.
“They asked me where I was from, and I told them I moved here for school but I was kind of in a little bit of debt and I couldn’t go back to school, because I couldn’t afford it and the cost of living here,” she said.
After the couple paid their $200 bill, they left Chandara a massive $400 tip.
“I just thought it was so generous of them. I never get tipped that big. I had to say thank you,” she said.
While talking to the couple, Chandara learned which hotel they were staying at. In order to thank them, she stopped by the hotel and sent them a thank you card and flowers.
The couple returned for breakfast the next morning and told Chandara that they will pay off her current debt and help her pay her student loans, a total that is greater than $10,000.
Chandara asked them how she could ever pay them back.
This is what they told her: “Be your best possible self, dream big and strive for your goals.”
“I want to make them proud,” she said. “I will take this opportunity with an open heart.”
