Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer said what everyone is thinking when he suggested that the United States launch a preemptive strike against the North Koreans.
The North Koreans have been acting aggressively for weeks, antagonizing South Korea, most of Asia, and the United States in the process.
Krauthammer suggested on Monday that the U.S. launch the first strike against the North Koreans before they get the chance to do it against us.
“I think that if we come to the final point, where they have a nuke on top of an ICBM, I think, yes a preemptive strike,” he said. “We cannot live in a world where Kim Jong Un can push a button and obliterate Seattle.”
“That’s a policy that means, if the Chinese have to calculate, it could be a bluff,” he said. “But the Chinese and the North Koreans are going to have to calculate that that is a plausible threat.”
If the U.S. isn’t willing to attack first, he suggested that they pressure China to force North Korea to put a “freeze” on its nuclear program.
The entire conflict with North Korea is a challenging one. On one hand, you want to take North Korea out to stop them from threatening the west, but a preemptive strike would kill a lot of innocent civilians and earn the U.S. an even nastier reputation among the free world.
