A Russian intelligence ship sunk along Turkey’s Black Sea coast on Thursday after it collided with a ship carrying livestock.
All 78 Russian personnel were rescued as the Liman spy vessel sunk, 63 of them by the Turkish coast guard and another 15 by the Togo ship’s crew. The cargo vessel carrying the livestock sustained minimal damage.
Turkish officials claimed that the area where the crash took place was shrouded in fog, making it difficult for the Russians to see the cargo ship.
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim confirmed that the whole incident “was an accident.”
A spokesperson for the company that owned the ship transporting the livestock said he was happy no human lives were lost.
“We don’t know our losses yet, but thank God there is no loss of life — neither from our side nor from the other ship,” he said in a statement, as reported by Reuters.
Thankfully, no one was hurt. Having said that, the Russians certainly embarrassed themselves with this stunt and you know that Russian President Vladimir Putin will punish the crew of that ship.
