Iran caught the attention of the United States on Tuesday after it was reported that they fired a cruise missile from a submarine in the Straight of Hormuz.
According to Fox News, the Iranian Yono-class submarine conducted a missile launch. The only other country that uses this type of submarine is North Korea.
Not surprisingly, the missile launch failed. Iran attempted a similar launch three months ago that turned out successful.
“Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said the Nasir missile, which he described as Iran’s latest submarine-launched cruise missile, ‘successfully hit its target’ during its test launch,” The Times of Israel reported in late February.
Conservative Tribune reports:
Moreover, Iran has recently taken to “purchasing sophisticated weapons from Russia, including air-defense systems, nuclear assistance and possibly fighter jets and tanks,” as noted by The Washington Times.
To make matters worse, the equipment being obtained by the rogue regime would reportedly make it significantly more difficult for the United States and Israel to ever carry out successful airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Couple this with the fact that the country has increased its defense budget by nearly 145 percent under President Hassan Rouhani, according to Iranian officials cited by the Washington Free Beacon, and it becomes exceedingly clear that the threat posed by this terrorism-funding regime is on the rise.
The buildup also suggests that the Iranians do not take very seriously the Trump administration’s plan to “put Iran on the front burner and take a far more aggressive posture toward Tehran’s provocative moves across the Middle East than the Obama administration did,” as reported by The Washington Times.
It is time for President Donald Trump to show the Iranians that there are consequences for these types of actions.
