Seattle Mayor Ed Murray recently revised his “soda tax” law by adding diet soda to the list of taxable drinks.
Critics are furious, arguing that the law unfairly targets affluent white people who are not interested in drinking real soda.
In its current form, the tax will generate 2 cents per drink sold. The money is reportedly being used to fund minority education.
According to reports, Murray decided to modify the soda tax after it became clear that the original version of it was unfairly targeting minorities who tend to drink more soda.
Murray has been in the spotlight a lot recently after it was revealed that he more than likely paid for sex with men in the 1980s.
Perhaps Murray should focus on clearing his own name before entangling himself in anymore controversy.
