A major sewage trunk line recently collapsed in the Mexican border town of Tijuana, causing feces and urine to flood its way across the U.S.-Mexico borders.
According to reports, border patrol agents are disgusted and force to endure the terrible smell of steaming hot feces in the desert sun.
“I have personally received reports of Border Patrol agents falling ill, being forced to leave their shifts and seek medical attention, possibly even putting their families at risk when these agents return home following events of exposure,” Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., revealed in a recent letter to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson obtained by The Daily Caller.
Conservative Tribune reports:
In addition to making Border Patrol agents sick, the spill has also caused a number of “critical military operations and exercises in the area” to be suspended, the congressman added.
He concluded his letter by urging both the State Department and the Environment Protection Agency to get involved in “resolving the situation.”
According to the The San Diego Union-Tribune, the spill occurred in February and was caused by the “strained and underfunded sewage system” in Tijuana, which is in the Mexican state of Baja California. Yet despite the state’s governor reportedly declaring a state of emergency in its aftermath, the spill has remained a problem well into May.
To make matters worse, it appears the Mexican government is perfectly fine with this and the refuse has even started showing up on beaches in San Diego.
“At least a notification would be a good neighborly thing to do, to let us know what was coming down the river before it got here so we could alert the public,” Dave Gibson, the executive officer of the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board, told the Los Angeles Times.
This is absolutely disgusting and Mexico should be ashamed of themselves. Accidents happen, but at least warn us when something like this is headed our way.
