President Donald Trump just earned himself the support of a prominent African-American college.
According to reports, leadership at the historically black Dillard University threw their support behind Trump earlier this week.
“In the first four months of this presidency, the Trump administration has been far more responsive to our community than the past administration,” Johnny C. Taylor Jr., president of a nonprofit that supports and represents black students, explained to the Los Angeles Times in an interview.
“I, for one, judge people by what they do — not what they say,” he added, the implication being that Obama had been full of it.
Walter Kimbrough, president at the school, agreed, saying, “For (President) Obama, people expected him to come in and fix everything, especially for black people … but he never campaigned strongly for HBCUs.”
However, the opposite has happened for Trump. African-Americans expected Trump to be bad for them and are now learning that he isn’t that bad.
“So people now want to see what’s going to happen because he’s coming in saying he’s going to be the president for HBCUs,” Kimbrough added. “It’s a very different perspective, but it’s still the first 150 days, so we’ll see what happens.”
Conservative Tribune reports:
In fact, Trump’s first action toward aiding the black community occurred as early as two months into his presidency, when he signed an executive order to provide $25 billion — more than six times as much offered by Obama — in funding for HBCUs, or historically black colleges and universities, according to Breitbart.
“With this executive order, we will make HBCUs a priority in the White House — an absolute priority,” Trump said in a statement at the time.
Tom Knighton of PJ Media noted the irony of all this, writing, “A Republican president, the party that allegedly hates minorities, is the one actually keeping his promises about expanding minority educational opportunities.”
For years, African-Americans have been let down by Democrats, who only milk them for votes. This is where Trump is different. He won without the black vote and now is he quickly showing them that he is much better for them than Obama ever was.
