Under former President Barack Obama, the Department of Veterans Affairs was mismanaged, resulting in our veterans not being properly taken care of.
According to a new inspector general report, cockroaches at the Edward Hines Jr. VA hospital in Hines, Illinois, were being served to patients in their food trays.
This wasn’t an isolated incident either, it happened numerous times.
Conservative Tribune reports:
The Office of Inspector General described the cockroaches as a “persistent presence” and said administrators who were aware of the gross pests failed to do anything about them.
The report stated that during an unannounced visit on May 10, 2016, inspectors found dead cockroaches on glue traps throughout the hospital’s main kitchen, and noted that they “observed conditions favorable to pest infestation.”
The report also stated that inspectors provided evidence that several patients received food trays with cockroaches on them. Emails from hospital staff to nutrition and food service managers dated from March 11, 2011, through Dec. 28, 2015, reported six complaints from patients that cockroaches were found on food trays.
This is no way to treat our veterans. After they risked their lives to protect our freedoms, the least we can do is provide them with healthy and nutritious meals while they are recovering at VA hospitals.
The fact that this happened is sickening and embarrassing for a country that prides itself on having the strongest military in the world.
Hines VA spokesman Rick Fox spoke out about the incident. He called the entire ordeal unacceptable and promised that measures were being taken to fix it.
