Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is a mysterious guy, but earlier in the week he turned down an invitation to host a major event for Ramadan.
Who can blame the guy for not wanting to host a major Muslim event?
Despite this, liberals are furious and have started criticizing him.
“Since 1999, Republican and Democratic secretaries of state have nearly always hosted either an iftar dinner to break the day’s fast during Ramadan or a reception marking the Eid al-Fitr holiday at the end of the month,” explained Reuters News.
Madeleine Albright originally started the tradition when she hosted a Ramadan dinner to honor Muslims during Bill Clinton’s presidency. The trend continued through the presidencies of both George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
Conservative Tribune reports:
This year, the State Department’s Office of Religion and Global Affairs asked Tillerson to continue the tradition. The secretary politely declined, which makes it unlikely that there will be any high profile Ramadan celebrations at the State Department this year.
“If they’re having one, we haven’t been invited,” stated Rabiah Ahmed, a spokeswoman for the Muslim Public Affairs Council.
Although Tillerson appeared to have ended the Clinton-era trend, the secretary of state issued a written message to Muslims with a focus on peace.
“On behalf of the United States Department of State, Renda and I sincerely wish Muslims around the world a peaceful and blessed Ramadan,” the official posted to the State Department website.
I for one support Tillerson and his latest move. There is no reason why we should honor a Muslim holiday when they go out of their way to try and destroy Christmas.
Enough is enough. If you want our respect, earn it.
