Some Americans view Memorial Day as nothing but a day off from work, but the more sensible among us recognize that it is a day to honor our brave soldiers.
According to KOB4, a man from Albuquerque, New Mexico, decided to transform the roof of his house into a giant American flag.
“From me and my family to all the veterans, thank you,” Rick Gabaldon told the television station.
“A flag should be flown every day by everybody,” said the patriotic son of a World War II veteran, who transformed his house into a massive flag to be seen by everybody in the vicinity every day.

“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for the last two years,” he said of the project, noting that the roof had been needing repairs for awhile anyway. “The roof had become very deteriorated.”
Conservative Tribune reports:
Using red, white and blue pieces of metal roofing, Gabaldon constructed a solid blue field at the top left of the roof, with alternating red and white stripes going side to side, interrupted only by the presence of dormers that stood out and received their own patriotic upgrade — completing the look for anyone looking down on the house from a helicopter, plane or hot air balloon.
“The neighbors first kind of freaked out a little bit, but once they understood where I was coming from, they understood,” Gabaldon said. “We might not all agree on the politics and the way our country is run sometimes, but we do live in a free country. Be proud of that.”
What a thoughtful gesture. It’s small things like this that show why the United States is the greatest country on the planet.
