A mother from Riverdale, Utah, recently locked her children in the trunk of her car because she claims she didn’t have a babysitter.
What kind of mother does this to her children?
A witness saw Tori Castillo, 39, lock her children in the trunk of her car and immediately called the police to report it.
Conservative Tribune reports:
Before officers arrived, according to KSTU in Salt Lake City, a woman who heard the children screaming decided to take action on her own.
The woman, identified only as Heidi, told the station she guided the older child through the process to activate the trunk’s emergency release.
Heidi said she was surprised to see two children jump out of the trunk the minute it was open.
“Both kids just came out… they just jumped out at us,” she said. “One lady took the 2-year-old, I took the 5-year-old.”
When officers arrived, they questioned Castillo and her decision to lock her children in the trunk.
Castillo tried to tell the officers that she did it because her babysitter didn’t show up.
The officers didn’t believe her and arrested her on the spot. Her children have since been taken into custody by child protective services and were placed in the custody of their father.
“‘It’s never right to lock a child inside of a vehicle, let alone a trunk of a vehicle. Obviously there’s a lot of things that could go wrong,” said Riverdale Police Lt. Casey Warren. “The fumes from the cars passing by, they could suffer carbon monoxide poisoning.”
Thank God the children were safe and hopefully Castillo will enjoy a lengthy prison sentence for risking the lives of her children.
