North Korea has been threatening the United States for years, but it may be about time to start taking them seriously.
According to Jeffrey Lewis, an “expert” on North Korea’s missile program, the defiant Asian nation is extremely close to having nukes that are capable of hitting the United States.
“The major question now is not whether the warhead is small enough to mount on an ICBM but whether it is rugged enough to survive the shock, vibration and extreme temperatures that a nuclear warhead would experience on an intercontinental trajectory, in which it would be shot into space and then re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere,” Lewis explained.
Conservative Tribune reports:
In short, Lewis believes North Korea has already successfully miniaturized a nuclear warhead and are now working toward making sure said warhead could survive launching into space and returning to Earth.
In recent weeks North Korea has conducted a large number of missile tests, several of them successful, and there continues to be speculation that a nuclear test could be occurring in the near future.
Some analysts have more-or-less stated that North Korea is still a long way from being able to successfully launch a nuclear-tipped missile.
“Similar doubts were expressed about China’s nuclear warheads in the 1960s, prompting China’s leaders to arm a missile with a live nuclear weapon and launch it across the country to dispel any lingering doubts. Fortunately, North Korea has not chosen to take such a step,” Lewis stated.
Even Secretary of Defense James Mattis has agreed that North Korea is the “most urgent” threat to our country.
