Kim Jong Un likes to make North Korea look as menacing as possible, with all the missile launches, international positioning, and the constant stories of him starving his own people in the name of technological progress.
According to the chairman of the South Korean parliament’s intelligence committee, Lee Cheol-woo, Kim is terrified of a “decapitation plan” that he often travels in the early morning hours and borrows his subordinates cars.
“Kim is so engrossed with collecting information about the ‘decapitation operation’ through his intelligence agency,” Lee said according to The Korea Herald.
Conservative Tribune reports:
The “decapitation plan” to target Kim and his top officials emerged in 2015, when the United States and South Korea signed “Operation Plan 5015,” a joint plan of action for possible war scenarios involving North Korea, according to Fox News.
The Brookings Institute stated that the plan “envisions limited warfare with an emphasis on preemptive strikes on strategic targets in North Korea and ‘decapitation raids’ to exterminate North Korean leaders,” Fox reported.
Reports from early this year claimed South Korea was rapidly working on creating a unit designed specifically for this mission, which was originally scheduled to be completed by 2019.
However, an assassination attempt against Kim may be incredibly difficult to pull off.
“A U.S. special operations strike against Kim Jong Un in today’s conditions would make the bin Laden raid look easy,” former U.S. Army and special forces officer Mark Sauter said, adding that Pyongyang is “surrounded by antiaircraft weapons,” and that Kim is always on the move, surrounded by guards.
