A high school in Alabama became the target of an angry liberal community after a teacher recommended several conservative books to his students.
Gene Ponder, an advanced placement government and economics teacher at Spanish Fort High School, encouraged his students to read books by conservatives and libertarians, like Mark Levin, Ann Coulter, former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, and former President Ronald Reagan.
Not surprisingly, the school board responded by banning the books after parents complained about the “perceived lack of diversity of ideas.”
One parent called the books “terrifying,” while others questioned whether they were up to the level of an AP high school.

“The slant on this list is inappropriate and unbalanced,” one person wrote on Facebook – demanding a “more rounded reading list for these developing minds.”
Conservative Tribune reports:
Apparently, these parents couldn’t just take it upon themselves to expose their children to whatever left-wing books they deemed appropriate — and somehow considered the liberal slant of mainstream news media, television programming, Hollywood and the vast majority of the rest of the entertainment industry was “balanced” enough for their children’s “developing minds.”
Of course, the controversy quickly reached the Baldwin County Board of Education, and unsurprising to no one, the board ordered Ponder to pull his reading list and cancel the voluntary assignment.
“Mr. Ponder’s reading list that is going around on social media has not been endorsed by the school system,” Superintendent Eddie Tyler said in a statement, according to CNN. “The list has been removed by the teacher. Baldwin County Public Schools has a process to vet and approve reading lists so that a variety of sources are used. I expect all employees to follow our processes, procedures and policies.”
Fox News conservative commentator Todd Starnes slammed the school board over their decision to push a pro-left agenda.
“The Deplorables Guide to Making America Great Again.” In particular, he said they should “memorize” the chapter on “how public schools have been transformed into left-wing indoctrination centers or in some cases – reeducation camps.”
Starnes is absolutely right. American public schools have become a breeding grounds for liberal ideology, and all too often conservative ideology is pushed out by the biased teachers educating our children.
We must preserve conservative ideals, share this story on social media and leave a comment below.
