Michael Rotger, the mayor of Chevigny-Saint Sauveur, recently put Muslims in their place when he decided to ban the pork-free option at schools in his city.
Rotger defended his decision, saying that he wants to refocus his city on the path towards secularism.
“We are putting an operation in place so the children eat everything and their diets are balanced. There is too much waste so we will teach them to eat meat, be it poultry or pork,” Rotger said, according to Breitbart.
Conservative Tribune reports:
His decision will likely enrage many Muslim parents who will argue that their children are being targeted and singled out because of their religious beliefs — Muslims, of course, are prohibited from eating pork or pork products. But Rotger maintains he is preserving France’s traditional secular culture — and keeping it from being overwhelmed by any outside forces.
Rotger, a French Conservative, believes that secularism is the way forward. While that is generally talked about in an “anti-Muslim” way, prominent human rights activist Paul Garrigue, president of the League of Human Rights and Amnesty International, argued that secularism is a “tool of tolerance,” according to Breitbart.
“We see secularism as a tool of tolerance and living together and no exclusion,” Garrigue stated, according to Breitbart. He added that a student who abstains from pork should feel “at ease,” in the school cafeteria because there will be no separation, and everyone will be treated equally.
Rotget said his decision is in line with recommendations made by the Association of Mayors in France.
Not surprisingly, the Muslim community viciously opposed the ban, calling it ridiculous.
