Tennis superstar Venus Williams’ career may be at an end after she was involved in a fatal traffic accident several weeks ago in Florida.
According to reports, Williams was deemed at fault and will now face a wrongful death lawsuit.
TMZ reported that Williams’ vehicle was T-boned by a car that was being driven by an elderly couple, but Williams said she was stuck in the intersection due to traffic and was unable to get out of the way of oncoming traffic.
Conservative Tribune reports:
Police determined that Williams was at fault for causing the accident by virtue of her blocking the right-of-way through the intersection, though they noted that she was not impaired by alcohol or drugs and was not distracted by an electronic device at the time of the accident.
The Daily Caller reported that Jerome Barson suffered head trauma, a fractured spine, severe internal organ damage and massive internal bleeding. His wife Linda, who was driving the car, had also suffered multiple broken bones and a cracked sternum in the accident that left their small Hyundai damaged nearly beyond recognition.
According to the New York Post, Williams is now facing a wrongful death lawsuit filed by attorney Michael Steinger on behalf of Linda Barson, whose 78-year-old husband Jerome succumbed to the injuries sustained in the wreck.
The lawsuit is seeking compensation for pain and suffering, medical, and funeral expenses.
William’s attorney issued a statement defending his client, noting that she entered the intersection during a green light and that she wasn’t issued any traffic citations.
