President Donald Trump’s critics often bring up how Trump has spent so much more than former President Barack Obama.
Well, those claims appear to be false according to a new report.
In fact, Trump is spending around $5 million less of taxpayer money than Obama did on his White House staff.
Conservative Tribune reports:
The majority of the savings have come from Trump’s refusal to take a salary, significantly fewer employees and a smaller staff for the first lady.
Under Trump, the White House employs 110 fewer staffers than Obama did at the same point in their respective presidencies, including 19 fewer staffers dedicated to Melania Trump than were available for Michelle Obama’s whims.
Another key way Trump reduced the Obama-era spending was by not continuing his predecessor’s “czar” appointments to oversee special initiatives, such as the 2008 financial crisis recovery.
In total, the president’s staff has cost a total of $35.8 million, while Obama paid $40.9 million for 476 employees in 2015.
Some of Trump’s highest paid officials, like Stephen Bannon, Kellyanne Conway, Omarosa Manigault, Reince Priebus, Sean Spicer, and 17 others, make around $179,000 annually.
While $22 million won’t come close to paying off the near $20 trillion national debt, it shows how fiscally responsible Trump really is.
