It is widely accepted that mailmen hate dogs, but a mailman from Houston is now under investigation after he pulled out pepper spray and blasted three tiny dogs.
Smart mailmen often carry dog treats to keep aggressive dogs busy while they deliver mail.
In the case of a mailman from Houston, his weapon of choice wasn’t treats, but rather pepper spray.
In the video, three small, non-threatening dogs approach the mailman to say hello. Without hesitation, the mailman pulls out his pepper spray and blasts them.
“They’re little dogs behind the fence. They don’t deserve that. Just put the mail in and go to the next house,” Jose Cruz, owner of the three dogs, told KTRK.
Conservative Tribune reports:
In response to a complaint filed by the family and questions asked by the media outlet, the Postal Service released a statement that read: “The Postal Service takes the issue of dog bite prevention very seriously. Local postal officials are conducting an investigation and will take appropriate action, as needed, pending the results.”
According to a follow-up report from KTRK, the mailman was identified as 21-year-old John Brucewayne O’Veal, and he was charged with three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
As for the Postal Service’s investigation of the matter and the “appropriate action” it took, postal officials refused to comment or even confirm that O’Veal had been disciplined, as it was a “personnel matter.”
However, the dog’s owners didn’t want the mailman to be punished or lose his job. Instead, they asked that he be forced to do some community service.
Clearly Brucewayne overreacted and needs to learn how to properly handle curious dogs.
