Mubashra Uddin, a 20-year-old Muslim college student and the daughter of Pakistani immigrants dropped her newborn baby out of an 8th story apartment window in Chicago on Nov. 11, 2015 and received only four years of probation for this murder.
Uddin allegedly grew up in a sheltered household and was forbidden to speak to boys, especially African-American ones.
When her parents found out about her boyfriend, they immediately home schooled her for the next two years of high school.
At some point, Uddin became pregnant and would give birth to the child in her family’s three-bedroom apartment.
Too afraid to let her parents know about the infant, she dropped the baby out of her 8th story window.
The infant suffered broken ribs, a fractured skull and spine, and a lacerated aorta and liver. A neighbor found the infant still alive, but she died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
“The act of dropping a newborn out of an eighth-story window to its eventual death is exceedingly evil, exceedingly cruel,” Judge James Brown said Thursday as he ordered Uddin held without bail.
“With all her family has put her through, I’m surprised she didn’t jump out of the window herself,” said the mother of Uddin’s former boyfriend.
“Sometimes she felt under pressure to be this perfect daughter … even pressure to be this perfect Muslim woman that prayed, fasted, was humble and also didn’t make mistakes,” a longtime friend, identified only as “Nina O.,” wrote to the judge.
This entire situation is sad. An innocent baby girl was killed for such a senseless reason. Uddin deserves to be in jail for obvious reasons, but so do her parents for the way they treated her.
