NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who gained a national following over his national anthem protests, reportedly never even bothered to vote for a presidential candidate on Election Day.ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith found out about this and went on an absolutely beautiful rant against Kaepernick, saying that he had just thrown away everything he had and was now completely “irrelevant.”“As far as I am concerned, Colin Kaepernick is absolutely irrelevant,” a very angry Smith said. “I don’t want to see him again; I don’t want to hear from him again; I don’t wanna hear a damn word about anything he say to say about our nation — the issues that we have, racial injustices, needing change, etc, etc.
“He comes across as a flaming hypocrite,” he added.
Kaepernick could have used his national clout to encourage people to vote, but instead he chose to do nothing. If he actually cared about the issues he claims to, he would have actually gone to the ballot box to try to make a difference.
Smith went on to say that after Kaepernick roundly insulted military personnel across the nation, the least he could have done was exercise his right as a free American and cast a vote.
“I would personally make a request to the media in this nation,” Smith concluded. “Wherever he is, if he ain’t on that football field trying to throw another damn incomplete pass, do me a favor and make sure of one thing: Take the camera away from him. It means nothing!”
Watch the rant here:
Many people have attacked Kaepernick for not doing anything other than kneeling on a football field, and this latest non-action may just be enough for him to lose whatever respect he had gained nationally.
