Christopher Lee, who killed pregnant Erin Corwin, says he did so because she molested his daughter, The Desert Sun reports.
Prosecutors say Lee lured Corwin to the desert, then disposed of her body in a mineshaft. Corwin was married to another Marine, but prosecutors believe she was pregnant with Lee’s child.
“I’m no longer scared to tell the truth. People have to know what I did,” Lee testified as his criminal trial resumed.
Deputy District Attorney Sean Daugherty asked Lee if he’s the one who killed Corwin, to which he said, “Yes I am.” Lee said, “Yes I am,” when asked if he was the one who strangled her.
Lee lured Corwin to the desert, then after strangling her dropped her into a mineshaft. Her body wasn’t found for months, during which Lee and his family moved to Alaska from San Bernardino County, where he was eventually arrested.
“I made the decision to kill her,” Lee testified. “I was controlled by the anger. The hate I felt that day, it was something I never want to experience again.”
Lee was distraught over not being deployed to combat and wanted to commit suicide outside the mine. When he and Corwin began arguing, he ended up killing her.
Prosecutors say Lee chose to admit his guilt in front of the jury after months of misleading investigators.
“You chose to do it in front of the jury,” Daugherty said. “It’s about you; you wanted attention.”
