39 people have been arrested by Spanish officials as a part of an international takedown of an international operation that distributed child pornography via WhatsApp, a popular chat application. This bust was made in coordination with Interpol and Europol. The files that were retrieved by Spanish police contained images of cruel, abusive and brutal treatment of children who were 8 years old and younger.
This underground network operated 100 chat rooms and contained 135 unidentified users across 18 countries scattered through Europe, Central and South America. Other detentions have been made in the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru and Portugal. The total number of arrests for this child porn crackdown have reached 102 people.
