Richard Dabate is a 40 year old man whose despicable actions were uncovered by his wife’s fitness tracker. Richard Dabate said that he saw his wife, Connie Dabate, get shot to death by a home intruder in the Connecticut home in 2015.
The time-line for his story did not add up when regarding her fitness tracker, which recorded her last movements. He said he was attacked at 9 pm and her last movements are at 10:05, according to the fitness tracker.
The so called ‘intruder’ was a “tall, obese man” with a deep voice like Vin Diesel’s. The man allegedly was wearing camouflage and a mask, while shooting a .357 revolver that was registered under Richard Dabate’s name to shoot Connie Dabate.
The gun was purchased by Mr. Dabate only two months prior to the incident.
Richard was found tied up, bound to a chair by zip ties, in the kitchen of the crime scene. He was covered in superficial knife wounds. The area had no signs of struggle.
Who would have guessed being fit would uncover the story behind your murder?
Data found on a Fitbit that Mrs Dabate had worn for an exercise class that morning shows she did not take her last movements until 10:05, more than an hour after her husband claimed to watch her die. Also, police sniffer dogs picked up no scent of other people in the house in the hours before Mrs Dabate’s death.
Her husband was in a relationship with another woman, who was expecting his baby – which detectives suspect as a motive for the attack. According to investigators, Mr Dabate had texted his wife a year before her death saying: “I want a divorce.”
Bank statements obtained by the Hartford Courant newspaper showed credit card charges from hotels and bouquets of flowers for his girlfriend, as well as strip clubs. The accused is currently not in custody after posting bail of $1m. His next trial date is scheduled for 28 April. Mr Dabate’s lawyer says his client is innocent.
