Fyre Festival was supposed to be a luxury event in the Bahamas that was allegedly organized by Ja Rule, running over two weeks from April 28th.
This extravagant party, billed as a ‘cultural moment,’ was supposed to feature performers like Blink-182, Skepta, and Rae Stremmurd as well as supermodels like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski.
To even get into this event, you had to shell out between $4k and $12k.
Unfortunately, it quickly fell into chaos, as the guests were stranded at an unfinished site and all the headliners were missing, having pulled out last minute.
They were promised ‘cabanas,’ but got something closer to ‘disaster relief tents.’ The food and drinks were noting even remotely close to what they expected to get. Instead of “chef-curated culinary pop-ups” they got cheese sandwiches in styrofoam boxes. And they were surrounded by mountains of garbage.
It was described as “Rich Kids of Instagram meets Lord of the Flies,” and “literally Rich Kids Hunger Games 2017.”
The festival issued a statement thanking ticket holders for “bearing with us as we attempt to accommodate guest needs” after the “unexpected start”. It confirmed that inbound flights had been cancelled and refunds were being organised. Many are speculating that the entire event may be cancelled – festival organisers have yet to confirm this.
Fyre Festival organisers said in a statement: “Due to unforeseen and extenuating circumstances, Fyre Festival has been fully postponed. “After assessing the situation this morning and looking at best options for our guests, we cannot move forward as we hoped we could At this time, we are working tirelessly to get flights scheduled and get all travellers home safely.”
