On Friday, California police have been involved for hours in an intense standoff with a murder suspect who had barricaded himself inside of his vehicle.
The standoff started at about 7pm on Thursday and finally came to a resolve after 6:30 am.
The officers spent much of Thursday afternoon and evening searching for this murder suspect after he killed a woman by gun near a wildlife preserve at Walnut Creek. She died at the scene despite officers trying to save her life.
He sealed himself off inside a Mercedes sedan while the officers involved tried to resolve this situation “with no more loss of life.” Police had residents avoid the area until they had the situation handled.
The man who was a murder suspect in their cases could be seen in the car pointing a gun towards his own head as he spoke to negotiators on the SWAT team that was trying to de-escalate the situation.
He finally gave his gun back to the SWAT team’s remote-controlled robot, which resolved the situation before it got too much out of hand.
The suspect could be seen pointing a gun at his head as he spoke to negotiators with the Contra Costa County SWAT team, according to reports. “Officers are currently negotiating with him for a peaceful surrender,” the Walnut Creek Police Department said on Facebook around midnight on Friday.
By early Friday morning the suspect had relinquished his firearm to the SWAT team’s remote-controlled robot, NBC San Francisco reported. Walnut Creek police had been searching for the man all afternoon and evening Thursday. Police said he shot and killed a woman near a wildlife preserve in Walnut Creek about 1:30 p.m. Thursday. She was shot at least once. Officer tried to save her but she died at the scene, KTVU reported.
