In Trenton, New Jersey, a dangerous situation arose on Wednesday shortly after 6:30 am, resulting in a police standoff between police officers and two armed men.
A warrant was supposed to be served by Mercer county sheriffs, but their attempts were replied to with the sounds of gunfire.
The authorities on the scene immediately returned gunfire in an attempt to protect their own lives.
Police have confirmed that one person has been shot and killed, but another suspect has barricaded himself inside the home.
Witnesses say that this man had a long gun. No other information has been released by the police yet, but the neighbors have been evacuated from their homes.
Two officers were injured in the encounter while there were trying to retreat. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The situation began after 6:30 a.m. at a home in Trenton, N.J. on Wednesday morning, FOX 29 News reported. According to the report, Mercer County sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve a warrant at the home around 6:20 a.m. and were “met with gunfire.” Shots were fired between officers and the suspects. Police confirmed one person was shot and killed. Another suspect barricaded himself inside the home. Two officers were reportedly hurt while trying to retreat. They were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Witnesses told Fox 29 that the suspect barricade inside the home was armed with a long gun. Neighbors in the area have been evacuated from their homes.
