Some people cry over spilt milk, but this 56-year old man ran into a burning building not once, but TWICE, over two cans of ice cold beer.
All that heat must have made the poor man thirst, and what better why to refresh a parched throat than an icy beer.
Michael Casteel ignored police orders as her ran back into the residence. In the burning building, firefighters had to repeatedly tell Casteel to leave.
Once he finally made his way outside, police saw that he was carrying Bud Ice Beer. This act of his was actually in violation of a 24/7 sobriety program, with his blood alcohol content falling at a .082.
He was arrested for that violation and for obstructing firefighters. This incident occurred as an apartment building on Spring Avenue in Sioux Falls caught fire. Police and firefighters arrived at the scene at approximately 12:30 pm.
Injuries did result from this fire, as one person was hospitalized and two people were treated for smoke inhalation.
With crews at the scene, Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said that Michael Casteel ignored a police officer when he ran back into the building. According to police, he came back out and went back into the building. While inside, firefighters repeatedly told Casteel to leave. When he came back out again, police said that he was carrying two cans of Bud Ice beer. Casteel’s blood alcohol content was 0.082 and was arrested for obstructing firefighters and violating the 24/7 sobriety program.
