Salman Abedi, British born terrorist, has been identified as the suicide bomber who targeted Manchester. His picture can be seen here.
He is believed to have traveled to Syria as well as had some “proven” links with the terrorist group Islamic State.
British and French intelligence confirmed that he had been to Syria. These two countries have been working with each other closely with each other to figure out exactly what had happened during the incident and what Abedi’s motives were.
It is unclear if Abedi was part of a bigger group of attackers.
British Prime Minister Theresa May said that the two countries will continue to cooperate closely as a part of their counter-terrorism measures. This is all despite the fact that Britain will be leaving the European Union.
France, themselves, is still under a state of emergency because they were the victims of several Islamic State attacks.
Gerard Collomb said on BFM television Wednesday that British and French intelligence have information that British-born attacker Salman Abedi had been to Syria. He did not provide details, and said it is unclear whether Abedi was part of a larger network of attackers. Collomb, who spoke with British Prime Minister Theresa May after the attack at an Ariana Grande concert that killed 22, said the two countries should continue cooperating closely on counterterrorism efforts despite Britain’s pending exit from the European Union. With France still under a state of emergency after a string of IS attacks, French President Emmanuel Macron is holding a special security council meeting Wednesday.
