Jared Kushner, White House Senior Adviser and son-in-law to President Donald Trump, has been under a lot of pressure after the story broke that he had ties with Russian officials.
Rumors are flooding across the media that he allegedly requested a way to have back-channel communications with Russian officials while in a meeting with the Russian Ambassador to the United States.
Kushner is suffering much hardship in particular, with pressure at an all-time high in the form of requests for him to take a leave of absence from the White House until this scandal is cleared up.
In so far, Kushner has been standing strong with the entire White House staff standing beside him in support regarding this scandal.
Some requests have been less polite than others. One of the more stinging remarks comes from United States Representative Ted Lieu, who tweeted out that he hopes Jared moves to Sibera, going on to say that from there he “can backpack and back-channel” all he wants.
In a different perspective, Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said that Kushner’s request to back-channel is “both normal, in my opinion, and acceptable.”
The California Democrat wrote on Sunday, “Dear Jared: I have been told that Siberia, Russia has lovely weather this time of the year. You can backpack and back-channel all you want.”
Included in the tweet was a link to the Hill’s article regarding the White House’s reported internal reaction to the Kushner matter. According to the news outlet, the push to temporarily remove Kushner is coming from other top administration officials.
The message the White House is communicating to the public is decidedly different.
