Joseph Valerio, of Smithtown Long Island, has been convicted of producing child pornography. Valerio has formally apologized for the harm he has caused his victims, but it is not enough.
This Long Island real estate developer was seen as a pillar of the community before he was sentenced by a federal judge on Tuesday.
Valerio, who is 50 years old, was arrested before in 2014 by FBI agents and Suffolk County police officers.
Evidence showed that Valerio developed a relationship with a woman in the Ukraine. He had the woman film herself sexually abusing her 2-year old daughter, and then she would send him the video footage. In addition to this 2-year old girl, a 6-year old relative was also one of his victims.
Over the course of the relationship with his Ukranian girlfriend, he sent her between $8,000 to $12,000.
The girlfriend is awaiting sentencing on this case after also pleading guilty.
