“Live with Kelly” was in the news last week with the announcement that Ryan Seacrest will join Kelly Ripa as co-host of the popular show.
Kelly Ripa has long been a fixture of syndicated daytime TV shows, but in terms of popularity, she pales next to Judith Susan Blum, better known as Judge Judy.
While “Live with Kelly” has a healthy rating of 2.2 (meaning that 2.2% of those watching TV during the time period are tuned into “Live with Kelly,) her ratings are nowhere near Judge Judy who captures a 6.6 rating.
Judge Judy has been on the air since 1996 and has logged more than 6,000 episodes.
According to Variety, Judge Judy Blum is the highest paid person on television, earning some $47 million a year.
For CBS Television which syndicates the show, it’s a true money maker. With almost no overhead costs and a large audience, it is a show that advertisers love.
Indeed, Judge Judy is the queen (and king) of television.
