Well, at least in France it’s better to be fat rather than skinny. A new law has gone into effect banning the use of models that are deemed as being too thin.
The law was passed in an effort to force young girls to eat more if they want a modeling career in France.
However, others feel that it should be left to each individual woman to decide what her body appearance should be. Before we had ‘fat shaming’ and now there will be ‘skinny shaming.’
Exposing young people to normative and unrealistic images of bodies leads to a sense of self-depreciation and poor self-esteem that can impact health-related behavior.

According to BBC French models will now be required to provide a doctor’s certificate attesting that the body mass index is within “healthy” limits.
Modeling agencies and many models have opposed the law, claiming that the market prefers viewing women with a slim body build and that the ban will harm their careers, or force them to leave France.
