According to NBC News, a top North Korean diplomat said the isolated country ‘might’ be open to talking with the Trump administration.
Choi-Sun-hee is assigned by the North Korean government to handle relations with the U.S. and made her comments while traveling back from Norway.
President Trump said last week that he would be “honored” to meet with the Kim Jong Un.
The U.S. and North Korea have been in an escalating war of words over the past few months that many fear could lead to open warfare.
In recent weeks the North Koreans have arrested two American university instructors, accusing them of being CIA spies.
If Kim Jong Un were able to secure a meeting with President Trump, it would be a coup for his beleaguered regime. Likewise, being able to stop North Korea’s nuclear expansion would be a major foreign policy win for Trump.
