Former Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner pleads guilty to charges that grew out of his sexting obsession.
The actual charge he was found guilty of is “transferring obscene material to a minor.” Conviction carries a possible prison sentence and a requirement to register as a sex offender.
Prosecutors have recommended a prison term of 21 to 27 months according to the New York Post, and it would be hard to imagine any judge letting Weiner go without jail time.
Which leads one to wonder what Weiner was doing going to the local Starbucks on Saturday instead of jail.
Indeed, the judge has postponed sentencing until September, thus allow Weiner to enjoy his summer. No doubt, when the court finally gets around to sentencing him in September, he will be given additional weeks (or months) to get his “affairs in order.”
The class of privileged criminals has become the standard among the rich and famous. However, to some, there seems little reason that Mr. Weiner is not spending this weekend starting his sentence instead of wandering the streets of New York.
