Ivanka Trump was in Saudi Arabia less than 24 hours before securing a pledge from the leaders of Saudi Arabia and the UAE to donate $100 million to a women’s empowerment fund.
World Bank President Jim Yong Kim announced the contribution to the World Bank Women Entrepreneurs Fund following a meeting between Ivanka and 15 Saudi women.
According to The Huffington Post, the President of the World Bank gave full credit to Ivanka Trump for the surprise donation.
This is really a stunning achievement, Kim said Sunday, according to USA Today. I’ve never seen anything come together so quickly, and I really have to say that Ivanka’s leadership has been tremendous.
Unlike the ill-fated Clinton Foundation efforts in fundraising in Arab countries, Ivanka did not put her name on the masthead nor does she draw any salary.
At the meeting, Ivanka noted that while Saudi Arabia’s progress on women’s issues has been “very encouraging,” she noted “there’s still a lot of work to be done.”
